First World War training trenches, nr Beaumaris, Anglesey
This Anglesey field, around three miles from Beaumaris, is crossed by a series of depressions with intriguing origins. It is believed that they were dug to train soldiers in preparation for action in France in the 1914-18 war.
The irregular form of the trenches, which are around 300 metres long, would prevent the enemy having a clear line of fire should they succeed in penetrating the defences.
Unfortunately, there is little documentation about Army movements during this period, so if you have any information about the site, we would be interested to hear from you.
